A native of Southern New Hampshire, I attended Notre Dame College (oh so long ago!), married and moved to my husband's family homestead in Machiasport, Maine - truly "DownEast".

The "empty nest" hit 6 years ago, and since I don't fish for lobsters or rake blueberries (not for lack of trying) I've fallen back on something I was once told "Do what you know and love".

My primary goal is to combine art and function within home furnishing and accessories.  I have blended a variety of painting styles and faux techniques to create my own style of folk art.

Whether it's thru the whimsy of my "Cow Cupboards" or the relaxing views of rugged Maine coastline, which grace many of my chests and tables, I wish to bring a smile to one's face.

Nature is a big part of my life, and the beauty of the rugged Maine coastline, our fishing harbors and all that coastal living brings, give me more inspiration than I'll have time to paint in a lifetime.

My studio is home based.  I've taken over my husband's office.  The kitchen is where most of the faux finishing takes place (cooking is highly overrated!) and the "show room" was once the living room.  One might have to step over the Golden Retriever and Newfie and the two cats (well you know cats) to enjoy the pieces.  Such is a day in my life.

90% of all my furniture is made by local Maine craftsmen.  I start with unfinished pine pieces.  Occasionally I find discarded pieces or antiques in need of a makeover.  Some items I have for awhile before it "hits me" as to what it needs; sometimes I can visualize it on the spot.

Whether it's whimsy or "formal", each design is my own and meticulously hand painted, one at a time.  So even a whole "herd" of cow cupboards are going to be individually unique!

Special requests are always considered.

Thank you for taking the time to explore Coastal Cottage Studio.
